7 Quick Takes Friday

I'm new to 7 Quick Takes Friday. Here goes:

1. I'm currently reading Bed Rest by Sarah Bilston. It's quite funItalicny. I read an excerpt to Mr. Savvy Stitcher the other day that I thought was particularly funny and he said, "And why exactly are you reading this?" Like he thought I was putting myself through undue torture or something because I might at some unknown point in the distant future, have to be put on bed rest. Because I do plan to have a child someday. And like he thought I was jinxing myself or something. I said, "Because it's funny. Duh." He didn't think it was amusing. There's something about men--they are unable to see the humor in chick lit. Oh well.

If you haven't read this book, you should check it out.

2. I saw the movie trailer for The Last Song for the millionth time last night. I immediately gasped and threw my hand over my heart in pure, excrutiating joy, and exclaimed, "I can't wait to see that! That book was so great!" Mr. Savvy Stitcher was not amused. Again. "You say that every time that comes on. I hope you don't end up being disappointed like last time," he says, referring to the last Nicholas Sparks book-turned-movie I saw, Nights in Rodanthe, which was terrible. "I won't. The previews are too good for it to be bad, and the book was great!" He just rolled his eyes, of course. So if I hate it, I'll never admit it to him. Plus, Miley Cyrus is a guilty pleasure for me. I love her. It's ridiculous. Don't judge me.

3. Speaking of Mr. Savvy Stitcher, we started dating 5 years ago today. After our first date, we came back to my house and watched Something's Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. If you are female and you haven't seen it, you are missing out. Mr. Savvy Stitcher actually enjoyed it, too. Maybe I'll make him watch it tonight...

Gosh, I'm really full of recommendations today.

4. I made this hat last night. It feels a little big on my head. Do you think I have a small head? Or is it supposed to be this big? I don't know. I'll try again tomorrow.

5. For some reason, something just reminded me of the last laugh-out-loud-funny book I read, Little Stalker, by Jennifer Belle. It's extremely quirky, and the main character may or may not have some sort of mental illness. But funny kind, not the kind that may or may not cause one to become an axe murderer (or is it ax murderer?) If you are easily offended, don't read it. That's my disclaimer.

Here's a blurb:

Little Stalker is the story of Rebekah Kettle, a one-time successful novelist, who is hopelessly blocked. While she waits for the muse to strike again, she bides her time working in her father's medical office and eagerly anticipating the latest movie from her favorite film director Arthur Weeman. When a chance encounter with one of her father's patients offers Rebekah a voyeuristic peek into the lecherous filmmaker's life, she starts writing him letters under the guise of a 13-year-old girl. Through intimate correspondence that details her alter ego's life, Rebekah relives a painful episode from her own thirteenth year. To complicate matters, Rebekah falls in love with a tabloid paparazzo, setting up a moral dilemma--should she give her boyfriend the scoop of a lifetime or should she protect her idol?

A smart and uproarious novel about the unrealized dreams, missed connections, secret obsessions, and surprising friendships that can make up city living.

6. I plan to crochet headbands and hats all weekend when not studying for Monday's Anatomy & Physiology test. That probably means I'll get one headband done, then not even be able to get it photographed for Etsy. That seems to be my modus operandi. Wish me luck.

When I get my store stocked up again, I plan to host a giveaway on my friend Chelsea's blog Roots & Rings. I'll let you know when. But check out her blog now!

7. If you need a good laugh, go to http://www.passiveaggressivenotes.com/ . You may have an entirely new outlook on the people around you. Perhaps you will appreciate your co-workers or neighbors more, or perhaps you'll atleast see that you are not alone.

Have a good weekend!

  2. Yea, I think that hat is too big. But it's cute. And I'm impressed you can make those in one night!

(The link to my blog is wrong. I'm not on blogger. You can just do www.rootsandrings.com and it'll work!)

  3. Chelsea: I'll fix the link pronto!

On the hat, I sent the pattern creater a note and she told me how to make it smaller. I'll try again soon!
